Bride

I came home for winter break (Winter 2008) and my dad asked to speak to me.  He had this look on his face and I just laughed.  My dad started to tell me that my Uncle OB called him; at first I thought I had done something wrong.  But my dad continued and he said, "Your uncle says he knows a guy who would be perfect for you and you have to call him."  I laughed again, nodded and started to walk away; I did not take him seriously.  So a few moments later, my Uncle OB calls me and he tells that I have to call this guy.  I laughed but he was very serious and he insisted that I call this guy.  I called Duke later that night and a few days later he called.  He wanted to know if I had a facebook page but I had blocked my profile.  A few minutes later we decided to schedule a first date.  On January 10, 2009, we met at PF Chang in Richmond, Virginia for our first 'blind' date.  Duke and I had a wonderful time and I was excited to get to know this intelligent, funny, and tall man.  He has been more than what my Uncle described and more than I hoped for in a partner.  God has truly blessed us.

Groom

I was visiting my family during the Christmas holiday of 2008 and I ran into Afua's Uncle OB. He stated that he had a niece he wanted me to meet and go out with. I was like no way, you know how Africans like to hook people up. I was far too busy to date because I was in graduate school and working full time. He took my number and said he would have her call me; I did not make much of his suggestion and went on with my life. A few days later Afua called me while I was at work and left a voicemail. I was at work and had class that night. I called her back and told her we could meet over the weekend. As my work load lightened up during the week I began to think about her and how this would work. It was a complete blind date; I tried to go on Facebook to see pictures however her account was locked so I could not see any pictures. We met at PF Chang and since that day, each day has been a blast. I am constantly enamored by Afua's dedication, strength, and perseverance in whatever she does. We have been together since and as each day passes I would not choose any one else to be by my side as we go through this journey called life. Love you Afua!!!
