Bride

It all started a few months ago when I finally made the biggest purchase of my life, Danica's engagement ring.  After finally getting her ring in my hand it wasn't long before it started burning a huge hole in my pocket because I could not wait to finally get down on one knee and ask Danica Perez to marry me.  At this point I knew I still had another task to accomplish before proposing which was asking her father (Hector Perez) for permission to marry his youngest daughter.  After a couple of weeks of just staring at this ring every chance I got, and brain storming the perfect way to propose to Danica, I was finally able to work up the courage to meet with her dad and ask for his permission.  We met for dinner and drinks at a local restaurant and talked about relationships, his daughter, and life itself.  After a couple hours Mr. Perez finally gave me his permission to ask Danica to marry me and a huge weight was lifted off of me.

Proposal Day (10-22-11):

It was finally here, the day that I was going to propose to Danica (Saturday, 10-22-11).  The set up for this day could not have been more perfect.  Danica was at a teaching conference and shopping date with her mother, while I was at Saturday school to get everything set up for the proposal.  After Saturday school ended, I had to head over to Mr. Perez’s job, to get hooked up with a wireless microphone so that he could capture the whole moment.  After getting hooked up with all of the gadgets, I had to head over to Oakbrook Mall and pick up Danica to take her on our “Sweetest Day” make-up date.  We were going to the Lincoln Park Zoo and had reservations at Shaw’s Crab House, one of our favorite restaurants.

Once I finally arrived at the mall, this is when the nerves and butterflies started to kick in.  I wanted to seem as calm as possible for our date to not tip her off even more than what I had thought she was already expecting.  We finally arrived at the zoo where it was all about to go down shortly thereafter.  We strolled through the zoo stopping at our favorite animal exhibits.  All the while this was happening I had to remain in constant communication with Ms. Davenport (the school’s music teacher) which was in charge of getting the boys to the zoo for their performance, as well as my brother Stephan and Natalia (Danica’s BF) to get there to capture the moment.  So how did I do this without appearing that I was texting other people during our date which is a big NO NO?  I pretended to take pictures of all the animals that we were stopping to look at.  Danica had no idea.  At least that was what I was thinking the whole time.  We continued to stop and observe all of favorite animals while everyone got into place for the big moment.  I convincingly told Danica that the petting zoo had baby llamas there for us to pet and that we are going to go stop over there to see them.  The zoo’s petting zoo was located on the other side of a beautiful bridge.  So we began to cross over the bridge and noticed the beautiful scenery.  We saw a wedding taking place and thought how beautiful it was.  As we made it to the end of the bridge a group of boys dressed in black started to cross our path with what seemed to be some type of performance (the proposal is now in full affect).

The boys were all a part of a pre-rehearsed performance that I set up with Ms. Davenport with a group of Danica’s favorite boys from school.  The boys were dancing right in front of us and they started to sing, Jagged Edge “Let’s Get Married”.  At that point Danica started to recognize who the boys were and what was actually about to happen.  She started crying and my heart was pounding through my throat.  The boys completed their performance while Natalia, Stephan, and Mr. Perez revealed themselves from their hiding places to take pictures and capture my proposal to Danica.  As the song ended, I took a deep breath and got down on one knee.  I stuttered a couple times because of how nervous I was, and also managed to drop the ring as I took it from out of my sock.  After finally getting myself together I took one last deep breath and finally said those four precious words to Danica, “Will you marry me?”  She cried a bit more and managed to get out the words I wanted to hear so bad, which was “YES! YES!!”  And that my friends, is HOW IT REALLY HAPPENED!!!!
