Tom and I met through an online dating service - I truly believe it was meant to be! We were both just doing a trial run on the site - no plans at actually putting on a listing. There is a little debate about who contacted who - I say Tom sent a note to me that said "you are cute" and he says I sent it to him. Neither of us actually sent it, so I believe someone else had a hand in it. We wrote back and forth through the site till the trial expired, and felt comfortable enough to exchange email addresses. A few weeks of emailing led to phone numbers being exchanged. Next came the big question - do you want to meet???? Wow, this was a little scary - The first time I talked to Tom on the phone, I thought he was Amish - it was the way he said the "o" in is words. He asked if we could meet at Genovas - he was at a coworkers house not far away, he could be there in 15 minutes - did I want to go?? I was so nervous, but I said yes. Genovas is a small restaraunt, with an outdoor patio bar, so I figured it would be safe enough.(Just in case:)
I got there first, and was waiting in the parking lot for a stranger in a black S-10. I knew as soon as he pulled in that is was Tom. I am surprised he did not just drive away - I walked right up to his truck and just stood there like a doofus. He opened the door, and I said - "Uh, are you Tom" He was so handsome, wearing a striped shirt, and khaki shorts - I can still see that first moment in my mind. I was pretty much done for at that point.
We went into the patio area, and there was a band playing. They were awful - we each had a drink and decided we could not stay there any longer. It was torture. So...we went out in front of the restaraunt and sat on a bench. We stayed there for over 3 hours talking. We covered so many things, it was amazing! We finally said goodnight after midnight.
I told him to call me if he wanted. I did not hear anything the next day, so I was convinced he had hated me. But on Sunday, I got a call asking if I would like to meet up to watch the race - we are both Nascar Nerds. So, though I was a bit nervous, I went to his house to watch the race. He cooked me a steak dinner on the grill, and had potatoes and green beans that he had grown himself. Well, that was it for me - I had decided I had found Mr. Right.
I'm not sure when Tom decided how he felt about me, but the rest as they say is history!
