Ellen Wolff & David Johnson
Dave and I went to Riviera Maya, Mexico in July 2015 where Dave and I got engaged! While we were there we planned to just hang out at the resort but after a couple days at the pool and beach we were ready to do some sort of excursion and get out to see Mexico. It just so happened that my sister had texted me saying if we had time she would recommend to check out Isla Mujeres. While by the pool getting our raft for the day we saw a sign that advertised for a day trip to Isla Mujeres with free alcohol, lunch, and snorkeling all included. We booked it for the next day and I must say it was the best $99 I had ever spent! Dave and I had no idea what to expect while getting ready to leave for the island. There were about 10 other people on the boat with us- which was awesome considering other boats had about 100 people on them. On the boat ride to the island it was amazing to see how much the water color changed and how clear the water became (Cancun water is dark and had a ton of seaweed). We first stopped and got to go snorkeling and then headed to the actual island. When we got to the island we had 2 hours to do whatever we wanted but the captain of our boat strongly suggested to rent a golf cart and ride around Isla Mujeres. So for $25 Dave and I had the time of our life riding a golf cart around the 5 mile island. It took us one hour to go around the entire island and we stopped maybe 3 times. I remember I kept thinking we are totally getting lost and have no idea where we are going. This was my second favorite part of the entire trip, #1 was Dave proposing. After we were done with the golf cart we walked around the touristy area and hackled prices with a few guys at some small souvenir shops for some hats and ornaments. After the 2 hours of free time were up we met back with the group to eat lunch and then head back to Cancun. On the way back we were able to do this crazy thing that they call a "spinnaker" - you sit on a rope with a towel wrapped around it and swing from the back of the boat with a parachute holding you up- sort of like parasailing but not as high but also not strapped in. Being an ER nurse made this was very frightening because I just kept thinking of all the reason on how this is so dangerous! Anyways we made it out alive and made some of the best memories during our adventure to Isla Mujeres! From the moment we stepped foot on the island we knew we wanted to bring our families back there someday. That is why Dave and I decided why not just get married there and bring everyone with us! We hope all of our guest enjoy the island as much as we did!
