| | Keep phones on airplane mode in Mexico to avoid data charges. US calls from your room are free. Wi Fi is reliable in the hotel. The farmacia and mall should cover anything you forgot and are a couple of bus stops away – 100% safe on Kulkukan Blvd (where most of the hotels and major malls are located) though like most major cities probably best to not do it alone at night – no night running please J! They have an excellent gym. | | Technically, the beaches are all public but I have rarely seen anyone sitting on the “hotel area” beach besides guests. The occasional vendor will walk through but are respectful and do not harass you, especially if you just ignore them or politely say no, have a good day, etc. If you start bartering with them, expect them to try to continue to sell to you, as that is their livelihood. I have bought trinkets, cigars, hats, sunglasses off of them for a reasonable price. Nothing like getting your retail on, while laying on the beach. Playing in the ocean is fun, but swimming most difficult as this eastern coastal side has a rough surf and usually a red or yellow flag (don’t swim!). | | We have access to other hotels Palace Resorts such as Beach Palace and Moon Palace. If we have time, we might take an excursion out to Moon. They have 2500 rooms! It’s so big that they have golf cart drivers, shuttles and buses to take you from one section to another. | | With a few night stay, you will receive a certain amount of resort credits (~$500/ 3 nights. More if staying longer). These are good for excursions and the spa. When you use these, there is a 16% fee charged which will go on your credit card at the end. They have an excellent spa (an excellent 80 minute massage is approximately $180 in resort credits). With resort credits, you can also go to Mayan ruins - Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum, Swim w Dolphins in the a fenced in ocean area, travel to Isla Mujeres (a small island with more local culture and a slow island pace, very long shore and easy swimming), dinner on the beach, etc. |
