Tiffany Ponzer & Craig Burris
Our Story
The story of how we met is classic! I was sitting in one of my weekly meetings reading one of my books when Debbie Ulm, Craig's aunt, came up and sat next to me. We have been friends for years so we were catching up on stories when Debbie said, "I have someone that would be perfect for you!" I instantly thought, while rolling my eyes, "Here we go again!" She continued ranting and raving about some guy, while I pretended to pay attention but in reality did not listen to a word she was saying because I've heard that plenty of times before. After she left, she called Craig. Craig was flagging traffic when he got the phone call saying, "I have someone that would be perfect for you!" He instantly said, "Is she hot!?!?" Debbie proceeded to tell him a little about me and how she had just seen me at a weekly Weight Watcher's meeting. Thanks Deb! Craig had high hopes!
Well about a month went by and mid October I got a phone call from Debbie asking me to meet her nephew. We made plans to meet on October 17th, 2007 at Willie's in Independence. I had such high hopes about this meeting that I took Tatum with me on the first date. Tatum has always been very shy when meeting people for the first time; however, not this night. She and Craig definitely hit it off. The entire date consisted of Tatum and Craig talking and playing games the entire night. I didn't get to say much but I knew from watching the two of them together that Craig was definitely someone special.
From there we continued to talk on the phone and go on dates. We waited about a month before we let each other meet the kids and we decided that bowling would be the best way to introduce the kids. Tatum was very excited to see Craig again. Macy had never been bowling before so she was also very excited and sat on my lap the entire time. Mason...did not say a word. He was not very happy that there was another guy in the picture. Craig and I were very nervous, but we did not let this discourage us. About a week or two later we decided to try it again and take the kids to the movies. Mason again was not very excited about this outing. However, when we got there, Craig told Mason a joke, which then changed Mason's entire mood. From then on there wasn't a day that went by that Mason didn't ask about Craig.
A year went by and on our one year anniversary Craig surprised me with getting a babysitter for the kids and taking me on a sunset cruise on the B&B Riverboats. Just before take off, Craig suggests going to the top deck to take a picture at sunset. We were the only people on the top deck, with one of the workers taking pictures for us, when Craig got down on one knee for the most amazing proposal ever. I proceeded to get down on my knees with him, while crying and kissing him, he placed the gorgeous ring on my finger. We were engaged!!! During all the excitement, we almost missed dinner. After desert, we danced the night away. When we were leaving he informed me that his parents had not seen the ring yet so we were going to stop by their house. There he had waiting another surprise! He had planned a surprise engagement party with all our closest family and friends. Amazing!!!
